BOLIVIA: ELECTIONS AND DEMOCRACY NOW!

EUROPEAN SOLIDARITY

The Wiphalas Across the World Manifesto (Wiphalas por el Mundo), issued by Bolivian communities in Europe and the rest of the world, receives growing support from prominent figures on the European political spectrum, including Jeremy Corbyn, former leader of the Labour Party, Baltazar Garzón, internationalist jurist, Maïté Mola, Vice President from the Party of the European Left (PIE), Jean Ziegler, advisor to the United Nations Human Rights Council and Jean-Luc Mélenchon, French national deputy and president of the parliamentary group France Insumisa.

The Manifesto calls on public opinion worldwide to demand that the de facto government of Jeanine Añez fulfils its unique role as a transitional government, by holding free, fair and transparent elections, respecting human rights such as the right to freedom of expression, opinion, organization and political mobilization, adherence to due process in the judicial system and the cessation of the criminalization of individuals and organizations for their ideological convictions.

SIGNED MANIFESTO

& PRESS RELEASE

In brief, Bolivia's last elections, in October 2019, were democratically won by Evo Morales, the leader of MAS.

Carlos Mesa, a presidential contender, refused to accept the results calling them a fraud. He also called for paramilitary, separatists groups to use 'all their power' as resistance to the results. Over 36 people were killed, majority indigenous.

The OEA intervened claiming an alleged fraud had been found, three months later, their official report does not mention or cite fraud in the Bolivian elections taking place, not even once.

Join our latest online event for an update on the situation in Bolivia, six months after the coup.
